Billinge Art Club is twenty-one years old, and has a membership of about seventy. We meet at two venues during the week. Each venue lasts for about two hours, but sometimes longer depending on how stubborn the members are. Although there are no structured lessons as such, a small group of members are taught watercolour painting on Thursday afternoons by John Dobie, who teaches art for Hindley College. Other art teachers are on hand to help you if need be, are Marie Hamilton and Ron Connolly both of St Helens College. Occasionally demonstrations by professional artists are staged for the benefit of the members. They attract interest from outside of the Club as well, and are becoming very popular. Such names as David Bellamy and Keith Fenwick have drawn large audiences, and have had to be staged at larger venues. On these occasions a sale of art materials usually accompany the demonstration with well known brand names on sale at much reduced prices. The Club holds two exhibitions a year at the Methodist Hall, Billinge. Over the years the exhibitions have grown in size and popularity, and are a well-known venue for picking up a bargain or two. If you would like to contact the Club you can do this by e-mailing us at (contact@billingeartclub.connectfree.co.uk) Or by writing to Ron Connolly, 15 Kirkstile Cres, Winstanley, Wigan, WN36TE
